The department of ECE, is celebrating its glorious 25th anniversary which started its journey from the inception of the institute in 1998 with an AICTE-approved BTech intake of sixty (60). Since its establishment, the department has been dedicated to imparting quality education, training, and research in various areas of electronics and communication engineering. The first year BTech intake increased from 60 to 90 in 2001, and later to 120 in 2005. The department also started a postgraduate (MTech) programme in Communication Engineering in 2005. The department is a nationally recognized destination for being accredited by the NBA (four times), the NAAC (institute) and for completing TEQIP Phase-I successfully.
With the guidance of academically brilliant, dedicated, and experienced professors (more than 50% of them have PhDs) and access to research in emerging fields, students acquire the skills necessary to excel academically and become competent at a national and international level.
ECE students are placed in globally renowned companies across a wide range of domains because they are trained in well-equipped hi-tech laboratories (both hardware and software) with project incubation facilities and a course curriculum that closely matches industry requirements. Students' achievement coupled with a consistent and outstanding placement record, with a high package has always been the pride of the ECE department.
ICT-based classrooms with Wi-fi connectivity are the strong backbone of the ECE department that enables a high level of teaching and learning. Career guidance and counselling through skill development programs such as value-added and industrial training offered by faculty members and the training and placement cell, provide the foundation for shining alumni (>1500) to successfully enter both hardware and software industries throughout India and overseas. The students are taking advantage of valuable suggestions from emeritus professors from Jadavpur University, Calcutta University, and IITs.
Students are motivated to do research activities in cutting-edge technologies which boost their enthusiasm to perform higher studies in India and abroad. Faculty and students regularly publish their research work in reputed journals, conferences, and book chapters, and have research collaborations with reputed industries and institutions in India and abroad. They also have shown their leadership by organizing national and international conferences, workshops, seminars, and various activities for 3 IEEE student branch chapters under ECE.
Apart from academic excellence, students are encouraged to take part in many extracurricular activities such as training and workshops, attending conferences/symposia/seminars, organizing technical and cultural events etc.
